It is important to discuss the automatic stigmatization that disabled people face when reporting an assault. These survivors are already subject to inherent discrimination, but if it is revealed that the survivor has a disability, they are more likely to not be believed. When researching general sexual assault statistics, it was difficult to find specific studies or resources on disabled survivors. I was able to find a reliable source that detailed statistics for disabled sexual assault survivors, and the numbers are shocking. I hope they bring a heightened sense of awareness.

      1. Neurodiverse survivors are assaulted at a rate 7 times more than neurotypical survivors

      2. Disabled women are three times more likely to be physically assaulted or abused

      3. 40% of women with disabilities experience sexual assault or physical violence in their lives
